Balayage is a highlighting technique of painting (or sweeping) on multi-dimensional color. Because balayage is a freehand technique painted on the surface of the hair, it ensures a smooth, blended stroke of color without the harsh look of regrowth lines in a few weeks.

Given that the color is hand painted on, it gives a more natural look and makes the grow out process less obvious. Traditional foil highlights generally need to be touched up after about 6-8 weeks, while with a balayage, one can wait until about 12 weeks!
