Level I MUD Makeup Artist Certification

84 hours | Included in Cosmetology Program

The Level I MUD Makeup Artist Certification is offered at no additional charge to students enrolled in the Cosmetology Program at Aveda Institute Los Angeles. We’re passionate about beauty and making sure that our graduates are as prepared as possible to succeed in the beauty industry. The Aveda Los Angeles offers a unique learning environment in cosmetology through hands-on, real-world experience. The Aveda Institute in LA inspires students to exceed expectation and seek lifelong learning beyond the traditional classroom. Aveda beauty school in Los Angeles promotes the concept that education encompasses more than learning basic technical skills. Our cosmetology and esthetics curriculum is specifically designed to prepare beauty school students for the state licensing examination and allow them to learn the technical, personal and business skills necessary to work in a professional salon environment.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are able to offer a hybrid of online education (with a live educator) and in-person education at our facility. Our virtual starts mean that you will be able to take the first step toward a career in beauty without the wait. Your iPad-based virtual learning will include live education in haircutting theory, facial building, professional development, and more that will be the foundation for your hands-on education.

  • LEVEL II MUD MAKEUP ARTIST CERTIFICATION

    Offered at MUD Campuses in New York and Los Angeles

    After completing Level I, the student may progress into more advanced areas of make-up by enrolling in a MUD Campus in New York or Los Angeles for Level II. At this level, students will be exposed to areas of fashion, print, film, television and bridal make-up applications. Students will learn the latest trends and techniques including airbrush makeup, bridal makeup, studio makeup and high fashion makeup. Graduates of Level II will have the opportunity to move on to Level III MUD Artist Certification including Essentials of Hair and Portfolio Development.

    AIRBRUSH

    35 hours 

    Airbrushing has become one of the premier ways of applying make- up. In this course, the airbrush is de-mystified. Students are shown how to properly care for and maintain it. In addition, students will study the techniques necessary to do beautiful, flawless beauty make-up. Learn the techniques that are being required by the major studios, as well as demanding clients.

    BRIDAL MAKE-UP

    21 hours 

    With a focus on the lucrative world of weddings, the Bridal Make-up Artistry Course takes the student from consultation to the creation of a bride’s perfect look. The Bridal Course begins with the idea that a successful wedding make-up application starts with a clear plan for the bride and her family. From there, students learn both business and additional make-up techniques required to be successful in the bridal business.

    STUDIO MAKE-UP

    35 hours 

    With the dramatic increase of new technology in video production for internet and cable broadcast, production can be found in all markets worldwide. Unique considerations are required for applying make-up for these types of media. In the Studio Make-up Course, students learn to apply camera-ready make-ups for everything from a natural to a full glamour look.

    HIGH FASHION MAKE-UP TRENDS

    35 hours 

    Learn the techniques employed by professional make-up artists working in advertising and editorial. In this course, students will learn how to work on set, design make-ups that can be used in fashion or editorial, and learn what a professional photographer requires
    to create imagery that stands out from the rest. Students will also develop an eye for make-up and learn what to look out for in their own pictures.

  • LEVEL III MUD MAKEUP ARTIST CERTIFICATION

    Offered at MUD Campuses in New York and Los Angeles

    All cosmetology students will receive a Level I Make-up Artist Certification at no additional cost, with the option for further MUD Certifications upon graduation. Beauty Essentials was written as an introduction to beauty make-up. In this intensive 84-hour course, students learn how to apply beauty make-up and the theory behind it. These first 84-hours should be viewed as the bare minimum to learn beauty make-up.

    ESSENTIALS OF HAIR

    70 hours 

    This course concentrates on the basic fundamentals of hairstyling, from simple blow-drying techniques to creating elaborate hairstyles. Students will learn to create modern styles – as well as edgy and cre- ative hair designs – using hot tools and roller sets. This course incor- porates daily projects and skill-building sessions to encourage learning by practice. As part of this course, students are required to complete hair and make-up projects, which relate to on-the-job experience.

    PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT

    35 hours 

    Students are pushed to their creative limits in this high paced course. This course recreates the real world environment in which students will be working. We will guide the student as they design and create looks for multiple photo-shoots. Students will work with professional models and photographers to create a professional quality portfolio.

  • In the state of California, one must be a licensed Cosmetologist or Esthetician to provide eyelash services.

  • In order to be a makeup artist in the state of California, one must be a licensed Esthetician.

Federal Financial Aid

Federal student aid is available to qualified students. Those that qualify may be awarded a Pell grant, Direct Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, and/or Direct Parent Plus loan. In order to be considered for aid, a student must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), which is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The amount of financial aid that a student may be awarded is based on a student’s EFC (Expected Family Contribution), which is determined by his or her FAFSA application.

Veterans Education Benefits

Students eligible for Veterans Education benefits may be able to use these funds to help finance their education. Our institute currently accepts all forms of Veterans Education benefits, with the exception of the yellow ribbon program. The school will not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries, or other instructional facilities, or the requirement that a covered individual borrow additional funds, on any covered individual because of the individual’s inability to meet his or her financial obligations to the institution due to the delayed disbursement funding from the VA.
